I run Windows 11 on a Dell laptop. My options are set to print to printer, but both Writer and Calc insist on printing to a file instead of the wire-connected printer. What could be haywire here?
Have you set that printer as the default?
My files remember the laat used printer, but they don’t “insist”, so I can change the destnation.

In the Print dialogue, you can click on the drop down in the Printer field.
You can set a default printer in Windows by clicking Start menu > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, clcik on the printer you want to be default and it open that screen, click the button Set as default
I made my printer the default, but LO still tries to send the data to a file. What else should I try?
Select the physical printer from the list in the print dialogue as shown in the screenshot.
After you have printed, save the file so the physical printer is stored in the file.
