Can't click outside / Deselect table in Base

First, my apologies: I may use terminology incorrectly. I’m a newbie.

I decided to create all my tables (about 30 of them) as Calc documents first, in case I wanted to re-think things as I went along (change fields, field order, etc.). I wanted to copy-paste the data into the “Tables” area of the main screen, which causes the Wizard to pop up.

This worked for the first table.

Now, when in the “Tables” main screen, my one and only table is permanently selected (highlighted), and I can’t “click outside” or de-select it in any way. This prevents me from creating new tables in the same way.

I’m particularly confused, because a day or two ago, when I was first experimenting with Base, this wasn’t happening. I was able to create new tables with “righ-click, Paste” again and again. Now: impossible.

Edited to add: Version 7.2.7.2, x64 - S.O.: Windows 10

Any advice…? Thanks so much.

Basically you have to specify the operating system and the LibreOffice version (three digits, e.g. 7.3.2).
Thanks.

Thank you! I’ve edited the original post to add that information.

Within the Base window this is the “normal” behaviour. Use “Create Table in Design View” above the list of tables or menu:Insert>Table Design…

But despite deselecting being impossible, pasting looks working OK (one just needs to make sure to not append in the dialog when pasting, and select a new table name)?

Oh my! Thank you! If it’s this simple, I’m embarassed! But again, thanks.

I will take a closer look at the options available.

I’ll post again once I’ve tried it.

Yes, indeed, this is it. I assumed if I couldn’t “click outside” I’d be forced to copy the data into the selected table, but - that’s not the case, as you pointed out. Thanks!
Solved.

Now… time to create tables!
