Can't Insert graphics/images in Writer?

I can’t insert images or graphics into libreoffice writer. If I insert a graphic and then save the Writer file, when I open the file the graphic is gone. There’s just an empty box outlining where the image used to be. I’ve never had this problem with libreoffice writer before. The problem doesn’t occur in Libreoffice Impress, only in Writer.

Try View>Images and Diagrams (Charts?) menu.
