Can't open documents from Windows 10 in Ubuntu 17.04 0r 17.10h

I have always been able to open documents from Windows in Ubuntu using Libre Office. However, with Ubuntu 17.04 and 17.10 I am no long able to do so. When I attempt to open I get the following error message: General input/output error while accessing (document).

How do you carry the documents from Windows to Ubuntu? Do you use some kind of network or do you use an USB-stick? What version of Windows do you have? Does the version of LibreOffice changed? Which LibreOffice version is it currently?
