Changing table cell padding always applies to all cells

In LibreOffice Writer, I select some cells in my table and adapt the cell padding value under “right click → Table Properties … → Borders → Padding”. After clicking “OK”, these padding settings are applied to all cells of this table. It used to be applied to only the selected cells. What gives?

(self-answered question for documentation purposes; don’t bother responding)

This happens when you have the following checkbox ticked:

right click → Table Properties … → Borders → Properties → Merge adjacent line styles

Uncheck it, and the changes to table cell paddings will only be applied to the selected cells.

I consider this behavior of the “Merge adjacent line styles” setting a bug. Because its documentation shows that it has nothing to do with cell paddings:

Thanks for this useful information.
You should nevertheless file a bug report so that we can have the opinion of developers, at least a clarification of the feature/behaviour.
