Content is missing in Libre office when Ms office is saying "This document contains fields that may refer to other files

I have a docx file (I couldn’t share unfortunately), and when I open the file in MS word it is showing the pop up as attached here "

saying that “This document contains fields that may refer to other files. Do you want to update the fields in this document?”
I can open the file by clicking either Yes or No , the content is showing properly but I couldn’t realise what happens when I click Yes or No.
When I open the same document in Libre office, I don’t see any pop-up dialog it simply opens the document but the problem is the content is missing in the document.
Can anyone provide some suggestions/configuration changes to try before filing a bug ?

Regards,
Satya

@mikekaganski Do you have any idea about this ?

And we couldn’t help you unfortunately - without (at least) a prepared sample file. (Delete or modify the sensitive part of the document)

@Zizi64 The problem is, when I open the document by clicking either yes or no and just close it, it is asking for save, once I saved it, the problem is not appearing. So once I edit the file or not edit the file just save it the problem is gone. This is the reason I can’t delete the sensitive data and provide you the sample as it won’t reproduce the problem.

…Then you can check the Edit - External links feature… It will show you what document was linked to your document.

Edit->External Links is greyed out.

It is in the original (not re-saved) document?

Yes, I opend the original document (not re-saved), the problem is reproducible but Edit->External Links is greyed out.

It seems ephemeral link issues do arise in Excel, see this question and answer on Microsoft, https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/discussions/excelgeneral/searching-for-external-links-in-excel-workbook/3818296

@EarnestAl Thank you for your response, but my document is .docx file.

I have a field code in the footer as shown below

Can this cause the content missing issue ? I think the pop-up dialog in the MS office is due to this. I am not sure though.

That is just formatting for the fields, basically saying you want Arabic numbering, although that is the default and it could be removed, see Format field results - Microsoft Support

As you seem to have access to Word, why don’t you click File > Info and under Properties, click Show All Properties then click Edit links to Files to see what Word thinks is linked?

Maybe it is just set to update its template if changes are made to styles?
