When you “convert the LibreOffice Word document”, do you mean it is already saved as .doc(x) instead of .odt? I have no Word at hand. It would be good to test if Word understands the ODG format used by Draw or if it is a matter of configuration like Writer: in Tools
>Options
, LibreOffice Writer
>View
you can request not to display images to boost performance. Maybe there is something similar in Word.

I have Word 2010, it generally damages .odt files and docx created by Writer. Never let older Word like your 2008 version “repair” those files.
If you need to just read the document then export to pdf.
If you want see the drawings in an editable .doc then you will probably have to export the drawings as png (I don’t think Word can read svg) and import those into the document. Or copy jpgs from pdf.
I was wrong; if you insert an svg into an odt and save as .doc, then LO saves the image in a format that Word 2010 can read, so possibly 2008 (is that 2007 for Mac?) can also read.
Word 2010 definitely cannot read svg from my test so Writer converts it to something else.
Best way forward is to export the Draw images as svg, inset into copy of odt as replacements, save. Then save as .doc. It seems like a lot of work for an obsolete version of Word though.
If you saved the file as docx, then in Word try making page much bigger, the Draw image might be placed outside the current page boundaries. Use Word tools to move image back to a suitable position.
I cannot find Draw image in file saved as .doc, up to A3 size.
