Copying old Word docs with text boxes back to Word

I have some old Word documents that have text boxes with text and text boxes with pre formed pics, as one would choose from a gallery of pics, like a bicycle etc…not a photo. I can export the document as a .pdf, but would like to copy the document back to Word with the text boxes and formatting, which I cannot seem to do.

I used LO to open these old files that MSFT could not open, but wanted to get them back to Word. Using a Mac High Sierra

I also would like somewhere to understand tags, which I cannot get at all

Appreciate any help

Save As .docx doesn’t work?

If you are referring to Writer add writer as a tag.

common refers to all modules in LO so don’t use it unless it also applies to Calc, Impress, etc.

meta refers to the operation of the ask.libreoffice site.

I have a file on desktop, an old Word file with a text box and a pic in the textbox. I have LO running and click on it and do a file open, which it does perfectly and I see the pic. Now when I save it as a .docx to the desktop it is saved as a textedit file with the text and not the textbox originally seen in LO

“textedit file”, what is that? In the drop-down Save As Type did you click .docx?

If Word no longer supports its old formats then you should save as .odt because MS claims to be working towards full compliance to Open Document Format

If you want, you can edit your question (at bottom of your question, click edit) to add a sample file with any privileged information removed, click the paperclip icon to upload.

I chose the .docx in your pic as well as .odt and the text boxes were not saved. I can export it as a .pdf and that works. .odt opened in Word no textbox, .docx opened in textedit no textbox. Textedit is an application on a mac and that is what the Libre file was saved to after choosing .docx.

Ah well, Word has limited functionality so you shouldn’t expect too much of it. “working towards full compliance” is an aspiration; there is no rush by MS.

You might have to copy the contents of the text box into the body of the text for Word to be able to handle it.
