Corrupt base and writer files

Hello,
I have a writer and a base file, I get an error message for both when I try to open them.
I already tried everything possible, including opening it with Microsoft word and trying a repair software.

Does anybody here know what else I could do?

Many thanks.

As only you knows this message I / we can only give general directions.
.
.odt files as well as .odb are essentially zip-archives, so you may try to open them with a program for archives.
.
It is always a good idea to make copies BEFORE you start “repairing” a file, so your next attempt can get a clean start when the first try fails.
.
Some internals to start:

You could consider to tell us the error message. Some are not very helpful " general i/o error" but some give a clear hint.
.
Another option would be to upload the files for inspection/make them accessible, if the contents are no secrets.
.
But if you are right and you really

then you should search your backups or recreate the documents.

Here is the error (in German):

Die Datei “xxx” ist defekt und kann deshalb nicht geöffnet werden. Libre Office kann versuchen, die Datei zu reparieren.
Der Defekt kann durch eine Manipulation am Dokument oder durch einen Fehler bei der Datenübertragung verursacht worden sein.
Sie sollten dem Inhalt der Datei nicht vertrauen.
Das Ausführen von Makros wird in diesem Dokument deaktiviert.

Soll Libre Office die Datei reparieren?

Translation:

The file “xxx” is defective and therefore cannot be opened. Libre Office can try to repair the file. The defect may have been caused by tampering with the document or by an error in data transmission. You should not trust the contents of the file. Macro execution is disabled in this document. Should Libre Office repair the file?

Repair doesn’t work.

The approach with ZIP doesn’t work. I used backups, but the system copied the corrupted file to the backup.

Where did you save the file? In home folder of your own system?

Are there any objections to share the file(s)?

Thanks a lot.
I remember that there were backup folders in LO. Can you tell me how to find them?

And yes, I did backups, but they don’t help if the corrupted file is copied.

Tools | Options | LibreOffice | Paths, but you need to have enabled backups using Tools | Options | Load/Save | General.

If you are on a Mac - you haven’t mentioned your OS or LibreOffice version - Tools | Options is found under LibreOffice | Preferences.

They are saved in an separate drive which doesn’t store the OS.

I attached the two files. Any help is highly appreciated.

Drei Jahre Gapyear or.docx (148.8 KB)

Haushaltsbuch.odb (167.6 KB)

Both files couldn’t be opened. “Haushaltsbuch.odb” also couldn’t be opened by a *.zip-application. Might be the drive looses connection while writing the data to the drive. Don’t see any possibility to get data back from these files.

I looked at the .docx file only (why do you save DOCX while you edit the file with LO Writer? The native format is .odt). It has no zip signature. Consequently neither Writer nor Word will open them.

Inside the first 512 bytes (this is 1-logical disk sector worth), I can see several timestamps: 30 March 2020 12:16:27 UTC or 6 April 2020 11:31:27 UTC. Do they ring bells to you? It could be previous contents of the disk sector anyway.

Second sector seems to contain HTTP traffic with HTTP headers, notably checking certificates against an OCSP server. The 0-filled gap followed by unrecognisable binary data. This binary may be genuine DOCX zipped contents, but at least the first 0x1000 bytes (4k) have then been overwritten.

If somebody is successful with restoring the files, please mail me to:

eschoe@freenet.de

Please don’t load them up here. Of course I am also willing to pay for these service, but please let us first talk about the price

It seems there is no hope. That is very bad. How can it be that a base database is corrupted from one day to another? Is there no way to extract at least some of the files?

Seems all this has something to do with the location where you have tried to save. Might be the connection has been lost during saving the files.
I don’t see any possibility to get the data out of the file, which ends with *.odb, because it couldn’t be opened by a zip add. The folder of the zip-file has been destroyed so you can’t get any data out from there.
Use a backup file. Hope you made backups. Might be you could find backups in the user folder of LO.
