Corrupted document

Hi,
I think this has come up before but people have mentioned that errors can be different in each case. I’ve got a 27 page document that I was working on today, seemed to save fine, and then I get this error whenever I try to open it and get only two pages, one of which is re-oriented to portrait where it was landscape:

An error occurred during opening the file. This may be caused by incorrect file contents.
The error details are:
SAXException: [word/document.xml line 2]: Opening and ending tag mismatch: sdtContent line 2 and del

I am really not tech savvy, so if anyone can help me with getting an uncorrupted version, I would be hugely grateful!

To avoid this kind of mishap in the future, always save native, i.e. .odt. If you have an “external” requirement to send .docx, do this once your document is completed and “polished”. You’ll avoid many problems with this DOCX proprietary format whose internal workings are not fully understood (retro-engineered on a guess game) because the format in not public domain. One of the problems is cumulative damage due to conversions when loading, then saving.

If your external recipients don’t require editing capability, send them PDF.

For your personal work, always save .odt.

@mikekaganski has done miracles in the past, but don’t expect too much.

Thank you so much - you’re an absolute lifesaver. I’ve lost the document twice already.

Will make sure to do as suggested and save as .odt as well as .doc in future, just in case.

Thank you!!
Acatia

Rather always work and save/load in .odt and only export to .docx when needed.
