The current application symbol for LibreOffice looks like a hotel bed with turn-down service. Is it possible to replace the symbol with an icon that hints that it is a suite of office software?
I don’t understand what is the problem. What’s wrong about a hotel bed? Anyway, you can get the source code, modify and compile it to your taste.

I was imagining that the whole point of LibreOffice was to make an alternative to proprietary software that anyone can use, not just programmers. To you, the symbols are of little importance. However, they are all your user base had to identify what the software does and to differentiate it from other apps at a glance. LibreOffice is not an app that makes hotel reservations, so the mattress symbol is inappropriate. If you are successful, the lack of intuitive icons will be a hindrance, since there are already too many counterintuitive symbols in the UI.
I cannot compile the source code, but I don’t have to go that far. I can just open the application bundle and replace the symbols in the Resources folder with icons with the same names. I’ve been doing that, but it doesn’t benefit anyone but me. Only you can make changes that benefit everyone.
The symbol is white sheet to write on. It perfectly fits the software suite’s purpose, given that it is the suite around applications for different kinds of documents, so maximally generic symbol is required. However, you can’t invent a symbol that wouldn’t remind a hotel bed or another irrelevant thing to someone.
By the way, being “an alternative” is not the point of the suite. It is an office suite on its own; and competing is just a situation, not the point. The software uses different basic architectural ideas in its heart, which is why sometimes it’s difficult to users to move from one to another. That emphasizes the idea that it’s a suite made to implement another way of working with documents, not to be a replacement for something.

Re: the LO icon, you’re asking for a “feature request” therefore you’re in the wrong place. You’d be better off submitting your request at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org,. Ask LO is for community support regarding the LO suite.
Lastly, you’ve managed to change the LO app icon to your liking…so where’s the problem? It benefits you. I’ve done similarly in the past changing various app icons (too similar sitting next to each other in the Dock) but I’ve never requested the developers change the icon because it was effectively only my problem.
