Create PDF Form -> Submit format. What is this for?

When exporting a document as PDF, on the General page of the PDF Options dialog, there is a Create PDF form option and, related to this, the Submit format option (FDF, PDF, HTML and XML can be selected).
What is the purpose of this Submit format option, how to submit a form with these formats?

When you create a form as a pdf-File this form is usually filled with data by the use on his/her computer.

The next step would be to submit the filled data to the originator of the form, and you have to decide wich kind of answer can you read or better parse by software.

FDF was one of the first solutions by Adobe, but there are several other possibilities.

But is not the PDF-reader that send (and decide how) the response?
That is, my reader ask me which format send, so ignore the format selected in LibreOffice.

If the reader is able to submit FDF data, there needs to be a server program on your side able to receive and store these data.

It is possible to do so, and so you may send me xml, when I’m only be prepared to parse fdf. I like this - as a programmer I will be paid to adapt for every new format we get…

So you would not set any default format, because the receiver of the form is not forced to obey?

(I see, why I never use pdf-Forms for this, but web-based forms.)
