Create table in Base in Design View Freezes

I installed LibreOffice 25.2.3 on my new Windows 11 Pro machine. I have 32 GB memory and 4 TB disk. I also installed LibreOffice Base, and JRE 1.8.0_451 with the Environment Variable Path established.

I’m attempting to recreate a database similar to an existing MS Access database with multiple tables. However, when I attempted to create a table in Base in Design View, it freezes when I add a column or define a data type for it. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the LibreOffice several times, but it still freezes. Does anybody what my problem might be? Thanks.

Freezing might be associated with the graphics driver/chip, and more particularly, Skia support for your graphics chip.

Have you tried turning hardware acceleration on/off under the Display entry of LibreOffice Preferences/Settings ?

Thanks for trying to help. I tried various settings for the graphics, but Base still freezes on me. I also tried on another computer (Windows 10). Same result.

  1. Initial State: Use hardware acceleration was initially unchecked, but Use anti-aliasing and Use Skia for all rendering were checked. Force Skia for all rendering was unchecked.

  2. Then: I unchecked Use Skia for all rendering, checked Use hardware acceleration. Impact: I could create a table, but when I attempted to move the view, it froze again.

  3. Then: I unchecked Use hardware acceleration, checked Use Skia for all rendering and checked Force Skia software rendering. Impact: no apparent change.

Here’s what the Skia log displays:

RenderMethod: vulkan

Vendor: 0x8086

Device: 0xa7a1

API: 1.4.303

Driver: 0.405.2460

DeviceType: integrated

DeviceName: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics

Denylisted: no

Please test in safe mode, Menu/Help/Restart in Safe Mode

It’s really strange. Just for laughs I tried to create the same LibreOffice Base database in Zorin Linux, setup in my VMWare environment. It’s the same physical machine. I just have Zorin setup as a guest OS. No freezing up occurs in Linux, only this darn Windows 11 Pro. I may just keep it in Linux.

Just had another thought - you’re using a JRE on its own, not the full JDK?

Could you remove the JRE and install a full JDK instead?
