I found a border, added a text box, but when I try to print I get either one, but not both.
Help?
I don’t understand what you are saying. [Edit] I guess you meant created a border
If you have the text box selected when you press print then only the text box will be printed.
If you have a block of text selected when you press print then only the selection will be printed
Deselect all items before printing

Sadly when I attach this doc to an email, most people can not open it to read it.

Export to PDF first: Click File > Export As > Export as PDF and in the dialogue choose whether you want lossless compression or jpg with image resolution.
There is an option to export as Hybrid PDF so it will open in PDF reader as normal but if opened from LibreOffice you can edit the original and re-export as Hybrid
Remember to deselect before export too.
