Cross-referencing data across sheets (Calc)

Hello,

I’m trying to cross-reference data for a calculation across at least two different sheets within the same file.
However, this used to work and now it stopped.

Example:
Sheet-A, cell L39 contains the figure 100. I want to make it part of a summary of several sheets in cell B2 in sheet-B.

So I usually go into cell B2 on sheet-B, say = then switch to sheet-A, click into cell L39 and press enter.
The result should be =$'sheet-A'.L39 in cell B2 of sheet-B and it displays the figure 100 of cell L39 in sheet-A.
But that won’t work anymore. All it displays is the = sign in cell B2 on sheet-B
Am I missing something? Has something changed with an update or so?

Give the relevant areas names, then you can dispense with cell references.

Interesting. When I opened your example sheets it was possible to do it the usual way.
I attached it again with a few more cells filled- the way I used to do this.
Why would naming areas be necessary sometimes and at other times not? I’m just confused by this…

@GBano
I’d try opening Calc without specifying a file, then, in the blank sheet, fill in cells to test the way you are used to doing it.

It is not necessary, but in certain cases it may simply be more convenient.

Please show a screenshot of this,
or even better: upload a sample file (calc) with the problem.
