Currency symbol missing in form Currency field

I am creating an xlsx file to be a fillable pdf form.
When using the ‘Currency Field’ and (in Control Properties) specifying the Symbol to be “$”, the $ is missing both before and after Export to PDF.

I feel I am missing something crucial, but in Control Properties, “Prefix Symbol” is set to YES.

What am I missing?

Try saving your file in LibreOffice native format (ODF), for Calc ODS.
Then also check your settings for PDF export.

However, when I saved as ODF, the export to PDF gave same results.
I’ve given up on the $!

Situation getting worse, though:

• In numeric field thousands separator not appearing, when specified. (It did, earlier)
  and
• Thousands separator appearing when I tell it not to.
  Argh.
