Customizing legends in a chart

Let’s say I have a pie chart. And I have a ‘legend’ area that shows what each colour stands for and there are little coloured squares corresponding to the slices of the pi. I want to make the squares → circles. Is this possible without hacking the code?

Also the source code is a little overwhelming. Can someone point me to where exactly the code part for the charts is??

I would start with those files that show up on OpenGrok for a basic “chart + legend” query.
