Cut and paste print screens

I often copy and paste ‘print screens’ into my Word documents. I also copy and paste other images from the internet into my documents. Will I be able to perform this in LibreOffice Writer?

Of course. Make sure to break the link between the image in your file and the on line source, or LibreOffice will attempt to retrieve the image from the source location every time you open the document. (That is what’d happen in the past, maybe it has been fixed in the mean time.) It may be safer to save the images and insert the saved images instead of the originals.

You can, no harm for you to try it out, LO and MS Office can co-exist happily on the same PC.

If you paste from clipboard into Writer the image will be saved as .png internally so as not to lose image information, maybe the same happens with Word. For drawings with limited colour information .png is probably fine. If you are pasting photos this can make your document file larger than you want. If you want jpg then it is better to save the image as jpg, then drag the image in from a file location or Insert > Image and navigate to a saved file.

Note that if you are using Windows Snip and Sketch then paste probably won’t work if the screenshot is edited in the tool. There are alternative screen shot tools that will take a screen shot and save it in your preferred format to a predetermined location on your hard drive automatically; you can then drag from there.
