Default document template keeps on being deleted from user profile

LibreOffice 24.8 running on Windows 11

My default template located in “C:\Users\Allan\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\template” keeps on being deleted. I have made it read only but that hasn’t stopped it being deleted.

It seems to happen on a random basis and has been going on for over a year.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Allan

How did you store it there? Manually? Did you register your template with Writer by designating it as default in the template management dialog?

It is usually not recommended to interfere with internal application directories. There is probably a directory named Templates or Models in your home directory (there is such one in Linux home directories). If none, create one.

Open Tools>Options, LO>Paths. You can add a user directory in the Templates line. Do so for the Templates in your home directory.

Create a template (or open an existing one). File>Templates>Save as Template will store it into your custom directory as an .ott file (if your present “template” is an .odt, it is not a Writer template).

To make it your default, File>Templates>Mange Templates. Right-click on the preferred one and Set as Default.

PS: LO 24.8 is not accurate enough. You should mention all four numbers. 24.8 only tells the base version was released in August 2024 without giving the revision number (bug patches).

That’s great and many thanks.
