Disable cross-references when clicking a heading in Navigator

I’m sure someone else has asked this question, but I’m unsure what search terms I should use, and the ones I did all ask about inserting cross-references.
The problem I’m having is when I double-click on a heading in Navigator, if I don’t press escape or click in the navigator again, it places a cross-reference in the document. This only happens on some documents, so I’m unsure what’s enabled in those documents.
My question is, how can I disable that feature because it’s getting really annoying? I’ve looked in the Options section, Customize, and even in the cross-reference options, but I can’t see where to disable this feature.

Could you edit your question and attach a file showing this behavior? If file content is restricted (as confidential, intellectual property, or otherwise), you could try to save a copy (different name, so you don’t lose important work by accident) where you replace all characters with “X”, and attach this dummy sample instead. It should display the same behavior.

If possible, also attach a similar file which is well behaved.

Keme1, Thank you for getting back to me. So, one of the documents that was giving me the problem is not doing it now. I tried to recreate the problem but couldn’t. So, I “created” an image to give you an idea of what was happening. When I double-click on a heading in the navigator, the navigator gets this green box around it, and my cursor turns into a grab hand. If I click on the document text, it places a link to that document section. To cancel the cross-reference, I’m assuming that’s what it’s doing, I must click in the Navigator or press escape. Since I couldn’t get it to reproduce, I’m assuming there’s a key combination I’m pressing at some point while I’m editing documents. The image I created to give you an idea of what I’m seeing is below. I couldn’t get the mouse cursor since I couldn’t reproduce the problem, but it’s a fist or grab hand or something like that.
Thanks for your help. As I mentioned in the original post, it’s getting really annoying when I’m switching back and forth between different documents, and I end up with a link in the middle of a word or sentence.
