There’s more than one that you could be referring to. Let’s list what they could all be:-

First, you need to enable “View hidden files” in whatever you are using to look at the file listing.

Next, lets assume that your document is called:-

1. ./doc.odt (your Writer document)
2. ./.~lock.doc.odt# (lock-file for your Writer document)
   
   (contents include location of user config dir)
3. (user-config-dir)/.lock (second lock-file for your Writer user)

Both lock files may need removing to be able to get access back to the bad document.
