Document Recovery fails: where are saved UNrecovered files?

Hi,

I had a crash while working on a document.

I relaunched LO and the Document Recovery dialog appears as normal; I started the recovery process, but it failed to recover a file.

Now I know that, if recovery fails, LO offers to save unrecovered data and I did so, but, since I was so mad (rage quit after this incident), I didn’t check where the unrecovered files where to be saved.

So my question is: what is the default location where unrecovered files are saved?

So far I’ve tried:

  • I’m unable to recreate an
unsuccessful recovery, so I don’t get
offered to save the file and check
for my self the save path.

  • I’ve looked on the temp folder in
    appdata/local to no avail.

  • I’ve looked on the
    AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\backup,
    but discovered that automatically
save backup was off by default, so no
    luck there.

  • I’ve checked the working folder where my document is saved for any backup or temp file it might get created but none found.

Any idea?

What is your OS?

Windows 10

In Windows 10 unrecovered libre office files are stored in the documents folder, no subfolder, but with all spaces in the filename replaced as %20 so it will be impossible to search by file name.

Open the This PC/My Documents folder, scroll down beneath the subfolders in that folder and search through the filenames with %20 and your unrecovered file will be there.

Next look up the instructions to turn on file autosave, which is off by default. It’s in Tools- Options, then on the left go to Load/Save and then go to General. Click Save Autorecovery every X minutes.

Wrong. If you have something like that, it’s some other software that creates those.

file autosave, which is off by default

Wrong. It is on by default, with 10 minutes interval. Easily checked by restarting in safe mode, and if necessary, resetting the user profile.
