.docx and .doc files not recognized as Word docs by LinkedIn

I’m having an issue where LO files saved as .docx (regular and XML) and .doc are not accepted by LinkedIn as Word docs. PDF exports are fine. This is for uploading a resume. PDF isn’t a good solution as some resume bots don’t process PDF files correctly. I’m running Windows 10 (updated) and LibreOffice (x64). I’ve also tried saving the file and changing the extension via windows explorer and appending the extension (e.g. example.odf.docx). Neither of these work. Apparently LinkedIn is reading/scanning the file and doesn’t like the format.

BTW - for some reason, the site isn’t accepting “.docx” and “.doc” as tags. It says to use letters, numbers, or characters “-+.#” … which I did with the period, but it would only accept things after deleting the periods.

The issue is that upload script for sites like Linkedin call browser apis that work only if the PC has MS office installed. I have tested this by trying to upload the same exact file from two PCs one with and one without MS office, it works with, fails without.

From there, i figured that installing just the free MS Word Viewer fixes the issue. Microsoft deprecated that tool in 2019 or so, but you can still find it online. By default, it supports only .doc format. You can install Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack to add support for docx and newer formats.

Here’s a couple of links that are working as of this writing:
MS Word Viewer: : Download Microsoft Office Word Viewer - MajorGeeks
Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint File Formats - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download
