The text from 70 footnotes has disappeared when working in libreoffice on a word document when it was saved as docx Any help in retrieving them greatly appreciated. have tried resaving as .doc and .odt but still no joy…

First, i think it will be better to fill a bug report about this problem at https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/ and please attach the related file and explain that footnotes are disappeared during the save process.
Second, save a copy of your file, rename its extension to zip, extract it and search the content.xml(i think) for the footnotes. If they exist but not shown in document you may see there.
