When I left MS Office it had a scanner app that also disappeared. It was so easy to use. I cannot find a similar program. The free ones are packaged with much larger suites. Does LibreOffice have a scanner app or can you recommend one?
What do you understand as a scanner app? LibreOffice doesn’t include one, it provides a hook (via Twain on Windows) to whichever Twain compatible scanner is installed onyour system.
Presumably, you have a scanner? Can you not use the software provided by the scanner manufacturer?
menu:Insert>Media>Scan>Select source…
If your scanner is not listed, add it in the Windows sytem settings.

Libreoffice Draw is what I use when needing to scan a document!
- Open a new Draw document
- Select menu item Insert / Media / Scan / Select Source.
- Select source in prompt window (installed scanner or all-in-one printer).
- Place document in selected source, then click “Start” in prompt window. Wait for the scan and paste process to complete.
- The scanned document should now appear on the current page of the Draw document. Position and size it to fit as desired.
- To save as a PDF, click the save directly to PDF icon in the menu and follow the explorer prompts to name, and choose a directory for placement of the new pdf file. Alternatively, under the File menu, go to Export As / (two pdf choices).
- Close Draw. No need to save the Draw document itself as the scan is now saved as a pdf file. The pdf may be directly opened in a browser or any other application able to open a pdf, including many of the Libreoffice suite apps. I prefer by default to “open with” my browser.
- To add pages and new scans to the pdf file, reopen it in Draw, right click on the left pane, add new page, then with the new page selected repeat the scan and ‘save as’ process.
