Drag and Drop Destination Preview Gone (updated 8/14)

I just downloaded 7.0.6, I don’t know what version I had before.

When I select a cell/group of cells there used to be a box that I was moving around with my mouse in real time that would preview where the cell(s) would end up. That box isn’t there in this version so I can only move things blindly.

Is this a design change or a glitch?

If it is a design change, can someone tell me which newest older version to download before this change was made?

Thanks!

UPDATES AFTER 1ST TWO RESPONSES

I am using MacOS Mojave 10.14

I have tried:
1 quit and re-open - failed
2 quit, restart computer and re-open - failed
3 uninstall and reinstall - failed
4 uninstall and download/install 7.0 - failed
5 uninstall and download/install 6.4.7.2 - failed
6 uninstall and download/install 6.3 - failed
7 still in 6.3, restart in safe mode (the user profile thing) - failed
On the user profile page it said to back up the user profile but I didn’t see how or even how to find it, it just to restart in “safe mode” and I stupidly thought that meant it was safe so now I’ve lost a bunch of stuff unless someone knows how to get it back at this point.
8 I found my old download file from before I updated my computer version 5.1.6 and I have the box back! I still lost “user profile” stuff but that just takes a little annoying time to fix.

according to tdf#133776 this has been going on for over a year?! and its considered a “medium” level importance problem? I’m offended.

Sounds like a glitch, the box is visible when dragging in 7.1.5.2 and 7.2.0.2 on Windows 10 20H2. If you hold Alt (to move destination content out of the way) then only the left border is bolded but box is still visible.
I can’t find a setting to turn on or off visibility for this box. Resetting your user profile would probably fix the problem but I would be inclined to test in safe mode (in same link) first.

Are you using macOS?

If yes - there is a problem, see tdf#133776 No border when dragging columns (MacOS)

That box isn’t there in this version so I can only move things blindly.

Workaround (requires a bit more attention):

  • Start moving while your mouse hovers of the upper left corner of the selected range of cells
  • Watch the small black square
  • Move the small black square to the upper left cell of the target range

If it is a design change, can someone tell me which newest older version to download before this change was made?

Hard to tell, if you have a choice, since you did not mention your operating system. If you have

  • macOS and
  • Big Sur

then there is no choice, since the bug appears with version 7 and older versions of LibreOffice are known to not run on Big Sur.
