Drag text into Writer table cell without destroying existing text there?

I’m trying to clean up a text file by setting up a two-column table. I do this via convert text to table.

That works, but some of the text ends up in column A rather than Column B, where I want it. So I want to drag that text to append it to the cell before it in Column B. But when I try, Writer treats it as replacing the existing ColB cell with the Col A cell.

Is there a way to import the text from one cell to another without losing exiting text in the target cell?

Thanks.

Does cut and paste selected text - Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V - not do what you need?

No, it also overwrites existing text.

Select the text, not the cell. Works for drag and drop and for copy and paste.

Thanks, but that doesn’t work either. I suspect because I have paragraphs in the text I’m trying to bring over. As soon as the mouse selection crosses a paragraph return, it selects the whole cell.

Works the same for me going across paragraphs. If you select across cell boundaries then it will replace the entire cell contents. Maybe the cell borders aren’t easily visible, like on my previous laptop, so make all cell borders red or some visible colour.

That was indeed the problem. More than paragraphs, each para was a separate cell. So Writer naturally went into cell selection mode when I crossed cell boundaries. Thanks much!
