Endnote issues Version 7.4.1.2 (x64)

Hello,
I am working on my endnotes. I have read several posts which have helped, but still have some issues.
I want:(did not show as I typed it) see pic that I added

               Ennotes
              Chapter 1|
  1. blah blah blah
  2. yup same stuff

Chapter 2

  1. more blah
  2. even more
    NOTE: yakity yak
  3. same ol stuff

Chapter 3
1… Stuff.
2. ibid.
3. more stuff
4. ibid

I have a couple issues I can not work around. First, there is a large gap between Chapter 1 and the first endnote.
Second issue, when I start the second page it starts at the bottom and not at the top. When I try to add more data it still only goes 3/4 of the way up the page. There are other problems but will start here. Thanks,
Lee

It is impossible to help you because we have absolutely no idea on how you entered your notes. It looks like they’re fully manual. And worse, direct formatted instead of relying on styles. The erratic behaviour is likely the consequence of inconsiderate direct formatting.
For correct diagnostic, attach a sample file limited to 5 pages with bits of chapters 1 & 2 (so that we have note anchors there) and the corresponding endnotes.

Do this in your original question by editing it. Don’t use a comment to answer. While t it, mention OS name and save format.

Hello,
I was afraid that it was a big mess. I would gladly delete what I have and start over, with proper direction. I myself have no clue of all the changes that I made. What I have so far was a practice run, trying to figure it out. This file was a copy test file and not the actual file. That way if I messed it up, I did not mess up what would be the correct and final copy (if that makes sense.)

I use Windows 7, and save in Windows 97-2003

Saving .doc(x) prevents you from benefiting of the advanced Writer features because they have no exact equivalent in this non-native format. Many styling will be turned into direct formatting making your work across editing sessions very difficult.

From the screenshot, it appears you want to insert “inter-headings”, like “Chapter n”, between notes. This requires a special trick to work nicely. Globally you need to be familiar with styles, first with paragraph styles. If not, I recommend you read the Writer Guide for an introduction.

For “proper direction”, attach your practice file so that we can have an idea about your present skills.

I am using .doc(x) as I am uploading to KDP and they prefer that or .pdf.
Which would be better for editing?
Yes, it is the inter-headings that I am struggling with, as you mentioned. I have downloaded and eading the Writers guide for 7.3.
My practice file is a few pages sourced from my finished (minus endnotes) but unpublished book file. My dilemma is that I am not wanting to publish portions of the book on the internet as of yet. I am in a bit of a catch 22 and unsure how to tackle this.

I am some what familiar with styles and modifying them on a basic skills level.

Definitely .odt as all formatting and features will be preserved between sessions.
Since your publisher accepts PDF, you export to PDF at the end of authoring and format-tuning job.

Send it to me through private message: click on the logo beside my comment to access “Message” command.

Thank You!!!
I will send it in message this afternoon when I return home from work.
I can not Thank You enough for your help and your assistance on this forum.

Basically, OP’s problem comes from mixed edition of his document with Word and Writer. The cumulative conversions have damaged the document structure beyond repair. For example, endnotes (they are indeed entered as endnotes) now appear as footnotes at bottom of page and can no longer be moved in any way at end of document.

In addition, everything is direct formatting making extremely tedious to fix layout and formatting.

Never, never, never mix edition with different applications. Work in native format and, if inevitable, export to alien format for recipients who can’t or are too lazy to accept .odt. But, if they return changes, merge them manually into your native copy to avoid loss of formatting or worse.

Format your document exclusively with styles. Otherwise tuning appearance becomes a nightmare.
