I seem to recall that the window for modifying the User Interface has in the Windows PC version of Writer an option in the lower left area for enlarging the icons in the toolbar. I forget its name. Now that have LO on a Mac, I see no such option in the User Interface options Window. I am also now in dark mode, which may not matter either way. Is this just a Mac-PC difference? If so, is development possible to bring this feature to the Mac?
Have you looked at
Menu / Tools / Options / LibreOffice / View, Icon Size ?
On Mac, Tools → Options is replaced by LibreOffice → Preferences
