I recently began using LibreOffice. Today, I tried inserting some equations into a file, but the characters are overlapping in strange ways.
I have attached one example below. Notice how the + and the b overlap, and other characters, too.
Please help!
Are you using OpenGL and/or hardware acceleration?
What are your OS and version and LO version?
Sorry about the very delayed reply. I’m afraid I just tried a couple of things to fix the problem, and then gave in and just got myself MS Office.

Your postet image looks more like a font problem, not a libreoffice problem. Use a different font for testing purposes.
For me, the representation of your equation works flawlessly.

Thanks for the offers to help. I had tried using some different fonts… but nothing seemed to help,and… so I caved and got MS Office.
@Morwinyon: I don’t see an image you referenced in your question (because it’s likely not accessible). I suppose that it would be preferable if you posted the image to your question directly (so it was available from the Ask site), instead of linking to another resource.
I would suggest to always post the Math code if something is to ask based on an example formula.
I’ve had the same problem.
So weirdly, it started after I uninstalled OpenOffice.Weird.png
I have typed: C(8, 2) = {8!} over {(8-2)! 2!} = {8!} over {6! 2!} = {87} over {21} = 56 over 2 = 28

The picture shows what happens when a specific font is missing on the system: OpenSymbol. It is expected, given that you had uninstalled OpenOffice, which still has the bug that we had fixed not long ago: tdf#76239.
Either reinstall LibreOffice, or manually install the font. The former is preferable, because it’s likely that some other fonts may also be missing now at your system.
And please don’t post new questions as “answers” to others’. Create own questions.

To clarify the difference wrt this site’s approach: this is not a forum, where there are threads with discussions. On an Ask site (such as this, or Stack Overflow, etc.) there is a Question, and one or more Answers, each supposedly solving the Question’s problem. One of them is Accepted; others might be also good and voted. The idea is that others having same questions find the question and easily see answers, without unrelated discussions.
