Equations previewed too small while editing?

I am having an issue where equations are previed too small while editing after upgrading from Libreoffice 7.1.xxx to 7.2.4.1. Demonstrated with a new empty document:

Note that the size of the embedded-object box is as expected, but the equation within is about 20% smaller. After exiting the equation editor it looks like so:

Is there any way to fix this behavior?

Remark. Due to issues after upgrading I started from an empty profile.

The issue vanished after closing all documents and restarting libreoffice over an unrelated issue. It is unclear what triggered it in the first place.

Later it returned though and the workaround did not work anymore.

The issue is always present for me in LO 7.3.7.2
