Err:510 Calc - Importing from Excel

Hello,

If I format a cell in Excel (Windows any version) as text, then enter in the cell any number of equal signs for example

=====

Then save an Excel file 2003/2007/2010 formats then open in it up Calc the cell just says Err:510. I thought Libre Office was supposed to open Excel files?

If I try and save the file I get 'This document my contain formatting which cannot be saved in Excel Format.

I am on Windows Libre Office 4.1.1.2 and Excel 2007 for Windows. The sample file is on Dropbox

I’m trying to move from Windows to Linux but need a good office suite that I can rely on. A spreadsheet came from my accountant with this formatting I made the changes n LibreOffice then could not send the file back to him, so had to do it all again in Excel.

Please can you share a sample file?

Please provide file, most of the users of LibreOffice do not use Excel anymore, so they can’t reproduce the problem without sample file. Please also write what is your Excel, Windows and LibreOffice version. Also what is your Linux name and version. Provide more info (you can update your question using Edit).

LibreOffice 4.0.x should be currently used by most of the users! LibreOffice 4.1.x should be used only with users that are willing to test and report bugs or really really need new features only available in latest version.


I suggest the following:

1. Document carefully how can you reproduce the problem and what error messages you get.
   
2. Uninstall LibreOffice 4.1.x
   
3. Install LibreOffice 4.0.x
   
4. Retest the files. Does it works fine for you? If yes, then it is possible there is some kind of bug in LibreOffice 4.1.x and in this case PLEASE report a bug at bugtracker: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/bug/ and write how the bug can be reproduced (see step 1). In title bar of bug report write: “[REGRESSION] then the title bar”.

Thanks for the reply. Just so you are aware I downloaded the new version of OpenOffice 4 and the file opened perfectly. I will download LibreOffice 4.0.x and feedback.

sorry but this is not an excel file, it is a HTML file with excel extension.

That is the standard format that Excel 2007 saves a file in XML format.

XLSX files are created using the Open XML standard, which was introduced in Microsoft Office 2007. They are stored as a compressed Zip archive, which contains a collection of individual files. The archive includes the file [Content_Types].xml, which describes the spreadsheet, and an XML file for each worksheet within the spreadsheet.

That is an Excel file.

Then the share file it is not the file what you are talking about (EqualSigns.xlsx). When I change their extension to HTML the windows explorer shows the file contents.

Sorry, All I know is I saved the file from Excel 2007 in the standard format like I have hundreds of files. I think you must have the wrong end of the stick. Apologies.

@mariosv, you have most probably right clicked on link and selected Save Link As. In this case I also get a HTML file. But if I click on the link and then on opened web page click on Download link to download file, file is downloaded without a problem. Don’t know why, probably some Dropbox hack…

Here is something rather interesting… I downloaded the new Apache OpenOffice and it opens fine without any problem. I hope that helps in debugging this?
