My girlfriend borrowed my laptop yesterday. She sat for hours writing a very important document, finally saving and shutting off my laptop.
Today the file is gone. She had opened an early draft of the file from firefox (not saving it to the /downloads directory, but instead it opened in /tmp/) and started writing. She saved frequently and did nearly everything correctly - How much more can you rely on the end user?
Unfortunately, the /tmp/ directory is wiped upon every system reboot. I’m running linux mint.
She’s all tears.
I cannot believe the there wasn’t a single warning dialog, while she was using the /tmp/ directory.
This is horrible and absolutely avoidable, so please implement some “please save file in another directory” dialog or enable auto-recovery whenever one uses these temporary directories.
