File:close is grayed out. Can't close file without closing the program

I tried to add Close to the tool bar. I did but it was also grayed out. I would love to close a file and leave the program open.

There are two Close commands in the list; one for closing files, another for form filter. Are you sure you had chosen the correct one? (See description below the list to tell one from the other.)

thanks, Mike. I go to File, and below that are New, Open, Open Remote, Recent Documents, and Close. Close is grayed out and I can’t click it to close a file. Do you have that problem? I’m thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling. I think I remember it used to work.

And the grayed out File:Close is only in Calc. In LibreOffice Writer it works fine. Very strange.

Which is your version?

5.4.5.1

I uninstalled and re-installed LibreOffice yesterday. Same situation. File:close works in Writer but not in Calc, but I did realize that I can close a Calc file with the x in the upper right of the file on the line with the commands File, Edit… so that’s a work around but it really puzzles me why Close is grayed out both on the tool bar (I added that command) and in the drop-down list under File. I’ve hit save thinking that might make the Close option viable, but no. There’s a reason but it escapes me. Thanks for taking you time to think about this, Mike.

I looked again at the commands I could add to the toolbar and found another “close” which shows as an “X” on the tool bar. That works to close a file. The drop down under file still shows “Close” grayed out. So I don’t get it, especially since the same option works in LibreOffice Writer, but I have found a work around. Appreciate again you taking the time to respond, Mike.

strange… it works for me with both 5.4.4.2 and 6.0.1.1 on Win10. Absolutely strange.
