File extensions in File Open Recents dialogue

When opening a file with the Open File Recent dialogue, the file extensions do not show up. I often have files with the same prefix but different extension. Example: spreadsheet.ods and spreadsheet.xlsx. Is there a way to get the full file name including extension to be displayed?

You may need to give details on your operating system. For me, on linux, the entire file name is displayed.

Recommended for Windows:

Open the folder options from any explorer window and untick “Hide extensions of known file types”.

One thing to look out for in LibreOffice:

Without “Automatic file name extension” being checked, you have to type the extension by yourself.
When you open an office document without file name extension, LibreOffice is very good at “sniffing” the correct type of file anyway.

Maybe it’s about the Start Center?

Indeed, the start center does not display extensions. It displays component icons only. I never took notice of this. When you hover over the icons, you get the whole path name.

Or (in Start Center) Menu / File / Recent Documents… :slightly_smiling_face:
