Libreoffice just disappeared from my Windows 10 system, so I reinstalled it. Now I get the dreaded “file locked…” when trying to open any file, .doc, xls. If I open Libre Office Writer and create a new document, the same thing happens. If I create a .doc file on another partition, it works fine. If I save it in any other folder than Documents it works fine. There are no hidden files present.
It is probably an anti-ransomware setting to make you feel happy.
If you don’t have a third party anti-virus have a look at this: Defender Controlled Folder Access
If you do have a third party anti-virus go into settings and then look for something like anti-ransomware or folder protection. Have a look at the blocked apps list, if you see soffice.bin in there change it to Allowed (you might have to read AV help if not obvious). Otherwise go to the Allowed Apps setting and allow soffice.bin, this might not be easy so you might have to add the different LibreOffice executables (Calc, Writer, etc.) to the Allowed list.
LibreOffice runs fine and works in all folders except Documents.
So, did you try unblocking it using the instructions?
Why are you bringing up Defender? I have no problem creating documents, as you should know if you have read my initial post.
Sorry, it wasn’t clear from your question that you could create a file, “same thing happens”. Also AVG anti-ransomware doesn’t seem to unblock properly, I had to turn it off for reliable access by LO (and other programs). See also question resolved by changing Avast settings
Have you Restarted (not shutdown because if you have FastStart turned on [recent update turned it on for me], it just hibernates not reboots) your pc after installation?
Did Windows re-assign file associations to another program? Wordpad appears to run in the background with file lock on files it has opened until reboot. You can reassign by going to Start > Settings > Apps > Default Apps > Set defaults by app
it was indeed Avast Ransomware Shield that caused it. Thanks much Earnest Al!
