Fill MS Word forms?

It is sadly quite common for forms to be provided as MS Word documents, see e.g. this example from a university.

If I open it in MS Office, the fields can be navigated with TAB and filling the form is easy. Check-boxes can be clicked.

When I open the same file in LibreOffice (or, for that matter, Google Docs), I can edit the document, but fields are not protected in any manner – the placeholder text has to be deleted by hand. More annoyingly though, there is no way to switch the checkbox from “off” to “on”, as it is treated as just a character, and I’d need to somehow look up the character for the checked box.

Is there any way to import such documents, that retains their “interactive form” character, so they can be filled conveniently?

Unfortunately, you do not share which LibreOffice version and operating system you are working with.
Newer versions of LibreOffice always have improved import functions for DOC or DOCX.
Try the latest version 7.3.0.3. Download LibreOffice

Please, if this has no success, you should file the problem as a bug on Bugzilla. Please announce the link from the bug here.

How to Report Bugs. Thanks.

Using Open Suse 15.2, so it should be LibreOffice 7.1.4.2.
At home it was 7.1.2.
Will try with 7.3.

Updated. Tried. The text fields work, the check-boxes don’t. Created a bug report.
