Filter not sorting by text

I have a Calc spreadsheet with 3 Text columns, a Date column and a Number column. The Date, Number and 1 of the Text columns work. The other 2 Text columns will not sort at all when I try to use the filter.

I tried using the Data > Text to Columns trick from another thread I searched for but it still doesn’t work.

Please advise.

Are you doing this by having a header row followed by the table rows, highlighting the entire table including the header, and then selecting Data>Autofilter?

Please use the upload arrow button to upload an example with a few lines of data that aren’t private. Without knowing what the data are (or are like), it is something of a guessing game.

I think before I was only selecting the header row, as when I had previously used Excel, it would still work like that. I had toggled it on and off a few times but I had only done it from the header button. When I went to Data > Autofill while selecting the usable table it works now.

Like Excel, normally LO would not require any highlighting at all. It would see the entire ‘current region’ as the table once you use the menu or you press ctrl+shift+L to start filtering. If the problem pops up again, though, remember you can use ctrl+* (that’s the * on the number pad) to highlight the current region yourself very quickly (if you have a number pad on your keyboard).
