Font issue: How to write in non-latin characters in LibreOffice Writer? (hebrew, arabic, syriac, etc..)

Hi,

I’m new to Linux Mint 22.1 cinammon.

I have a font called Noto-Sans-Cuneiform which allows typing in cuneiform characters.

When i type with it, it just types in latin letters (ABC).
When i display the font in the font-manager, it displays all letters properly.

I can also copy a single letter from the fonr manager into Writer. That works.
But typing in cuneiform doesn’t.

Any idea how to fix this?

My language is set to US-en.

Thanks!

Have you a Cuneiform keyboard or a data entry method fit for Cuneiform? These glyphs are assigned to the Supplementary Multilingual Plane between U+12000 and U+1254F which means they can’t be generated with standard keyboard.

Writer has a feature allowing to insert any Unicode code point by typing “U+” (without quotes) followed by the hexadecimal encoding of the glyph, then by Alt+X. But this becomes extremely tedious.

Since you’re under Linux Mint, you can try to design your own keyboard layout and switch between this one and the standard US layout.
