Font rendering issue of Impress text box

As can be seen in the figures, there seems to be inconsistency between viewing and editing mode of text box in libreoffice impress. (liberation Sans font was used in the figure)

This rendering issue becomes more problematic when the text boxes are tightly filled with texts
, yielding ugly, untidy arrangements of texts and figures.

I’ve noticed that libreoffice 7.2.5 in windows 10 doesn’t exhibit this issue.
Any comments will be appreciated.

Libreoffice ver: 7.2.5, 7.3.0
Platform: arch linux gnome 41, ubuntu 21.10 gnome 40, fedora 35

Here are steps described, which could possibly solve the problem.

First steps

If these steps are not helpful, you should upload your document here so someone can examine it. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve tried to follow the steps and realized that the last step of launching libreoffice via

SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice

didn’t exhibit the issue that I suffered, yet the impress reacted extremely slow.

It’s gnome 41.3, gtk3 3.24.31 on wayland. Both Libreoffice 7.3.0, 7.2.5 yield the same result.

Thank you for making your document available.
I have downloaded it and looked at it.
I could not find anything out of the ordinary in your document.
The response times for me are standard and an immediate response follows.
Since I use Windows as my operating system, someone else should help you at this point.

Remark:
Although everything works fine for me, IMHO it is a bit out of the ordinary to describe a single page / slide in Impress so tightly, but that is certainly also a matter of taste.

Version: 7.3.0.3 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 0f246aa12d0eee4a0f7adcefbf7c878fc2238db3
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: de-DE
Calc: CL

Suggestion: You might want to start a new topic, since the heading has nothing to do with slow behavior. Thank you.

Thanks a lot for your time, prompt reply and tests with your system.

I could have clarified in a better way, but the uploaded file is a part of a big file with over 2000 pages.
(still sufficient for showing what a problem is) Having that said, running in SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice mode can’t be sustained from my side.
Windows didn’t show any problem from the beginning. This issue only appears in linux (arch & ubuntu) which is my main operating system.
Many thanks!

Image in viewing mode of slides in impress:

With such a “dense” slide, I’d use Writer with all the power of its styles (paragraph and character). Images are frames which have wrap properties avoiding your manual cheating with spaces to simulate them.

Do you know that the formula editor Math is available under Impress? This would certainly have been more efficient than entering your formula in a text box and erroneously overlaying (or underlaying) them with a coloured rectangle (which you didn’t even group). I wrote “erroneously” because the text box could have been given a background colour.

Nevertheless, your slide has certainly a twisted structure because it makes my LO 7.2.5.2.0+ (under Fedora 35, KDE Plasma desktop, Wayland) extremely unstable.

Thanks for the useful comment.

I agree with you in that Writer would be better in terms of styles and structures.
It’s just inertia that prevents me from switching to Writer. I have been using Impress in this manner of clearly divided slide by slide structure, which is not offered by Writer as far as I know.

Additional note:
I realize that libreoffice 6.4.7 has no issue at all and everything seems fine.
Unfortunately I don’t have enough knowledge to understand why this issue persists with 7.2.5 and 7.3.0, but not with 6.4.7 (which is discontinued).

You can simulate a “slide by slide” structure by inserting a page break between your slides.
