Tonight I installed L.O. v.7.0.3. On every Calc document I opened I noticed that fonts and cell borders were very blurry. I tried various combinations of “Libreoffice\View” options without success. (It may be worse with Open GL, but it is hard to tell.) I have some vision issues, and this blurriness was bad enough that I had to revert to v.6.4.7, which I can see quite clearly. I did not see any postings with references to this problem in v.7 on this forum. I did find very similar postings about blurry fonts in older versions, but no good solutions. Is anyone else seeing this? Any suggestions on de-blurring v.7? I would like to move to v.7, but I can’t use it blurry. I am running L.O under Windows 10.
Do you have a HiDPI display?
I don’t think so. 27 inch Samsung monitor, ~82 pixels/inch. All other apps (including v.6.4.7) very easy on the eyes.
Version 7 uses Skia not OpenGL, same place though, Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View > Graphics Options
.
Are you waiting for any Windows Updates especially Net Framework? Have a look in Start Menu > ⚙ Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
. I shouldn’t worry too much about the version updates to Windows.
Windows update was hung and required resetting. It then updated Net Framework. After a restart I reinstalled 7.0.3, but the blur is still there. The blur is most visible on cell borders if the border thickness is set to anything other than 0.5 pixels. The lines are sharp if the zoom is adjusted to a high value, blurry at 100% I tried the Windows Clear Type tool, no change. Going back to 6.4.7.
I may have found something. In an Open Office forum from several years ago I found references to this issue. The solution was to disable DPI scaling at the application level. I tried this on v.6.4.7 and definitely saw an improvement (clear became remarkably clear). At some point I will try this on v.7, but today I need to use the app I have.
If it works, do you want to post the details as an answer in case somebody else has a similar problem. Cheers, Al
Disabling DPI scaling at the application level with Calc in version 7 did not solve the problem. The blurriness is still present.
