Footnote "Position" field vanished?

Hey,

In Writer, Format > Page Style > Footnote tab used to have a field labelled Position. It allows you to position your footnote divider line to the left or right.

Now, it seems to have disappeared from some of my documents. (Although, when I open a new doc in Writer, the field is shown.)

Anyone know how to get the “Position” field back?

The problem docs were produced with LO 24.8.4.2 on Win11 and also with LO 24.8.6.2 on Ubuntu.

What happened? Have you updated LO? From which release to which? OS name?

Since your screenshot is different from mine (25.2.3.2), I guess you’re not up-to-date. And perhaps (though unlikely), save format also plays a role.

So, please give information useful to help you. Provide this information by reopening your question (click on below it, then on the “pencil” icon) so that all details are grouped in a single location without needing to scroll.

Do you saved them always as .odt?
I see the same (reduced) options when opening a .docx file?

The files are saved as ODT, but the same field is missing when the field is saved as DOCX.

These controls are explicitly hidden in Word compatibility mode (specifically, Render endnotes at the end of document inline, rather than on a separate page). It was implemented in tdf#160984 (support for continuous endnotes) starting from version 24.8.

If you have it hidden in ODT documents, it means these documents were converted from DOC(X)/RTF.
