I repeated the application of this lesson and found that the result may be satisfactory. I will inform you at that time
The result is not satisfactory to some extent. Notice the difference in line thickness from one paragraph to another, which is distorted and noticeable
Your offending paragraph contains an awful mess of direct formatting (just like the rest of the document indeed). I could not remove it entirely which suggests this paragraph was pasted from external source with “sticky” formatting. Another hypothesis is the document was originally edited with M$ Word.
Some characters in the offending paragraph have LTR property (though they are Arabic letters) and I can’t revert them to RTL. This is shown by the little pointing triangle at top of the cursor. Note also how the cursor jumps to unexpected positions when pressing the keyboard arrow keys.
The problem cannot be fixed in the present state.
The solution is:
- learn to use with styles, avoid direct formatting
- work in an homogeneous environment: don’t mix applications when editing, don’t paste externally formatted text (if external text has formatting, paste it as unformatted text and use styles to restore its look)
- configure adequately Writer for your task (character, paragraph and page styles)
- restart your document from scratch by pasting its full contents as unformatted text, then apply styles
Regarding the last point, your personal defaults can be set in Tools
>Options
and in Default Paragraph Style (e.g. language, font face and size). Normal style for text is Text Body which inherits defaults from Default Paragraph Style and separates text fromatting from heading formatting.
None of the above happened
I’ll start over or paste without formatting and see what happens. I need the file before next Sunday, and currently I’m trying to use Word Online as a workaround until I adjust to this program
Something happened that I was afraid of the numbers being difficult to convert into Arabic. I have already gone through that. I am in almost trouble.
I ask all members not to think that the problem is over and to continue to provide assistance
The rule on this site is: one problem = one question.
If you’re in trouble with numbers, ask another question.
It might be a matter of mixing Western European digits (LTR sequence) with Arabic text (RTL script). Be careful.
From what I see, you are now using Word Online. You’re heading into very serious problems due to conversion between formats.
The free Microsoft Word is good, but I need to purchase it to enjoy all the features and Arabic numbers
Do not worry, I began to understand the issue of formatting. I pasted without formatting another program
I mentioned it because it is related to my predicament. I know what you are saying and appreciate it
Here I go forward to your solutions and directions
I can’t find them with the Find and Replace tool. Maybe I missed something.
RTL/LTR switch usually has no formatting mark. It is an implicit property of Unicode characters. Some of them are “neutral” and can be forced one direction or other with an explicit mark. But this is an exceptional usage. You have none in your text and don’t need them.
I did not find the key in Word Online like you
According to my understanding, it is the key to the direction of the text or paragraph in part. This tool or object is beginning to get to know it more
Status update
This is the best result I got so far
Notes
Why does this happen when the paragraph style is from the default paragraph style to body text and then back to body text the problem ends. That’s what raises the argument I don’t have to stay on the text body style Compare the result with the beginning of the problem I’ll explain the difference between the two styles in my next post
The difference between the two patterns in the vertical distance between the vertebrae
For example, this style consists of two paragraphs, then a space, and so on, as are the rest of the text styles and templates
And the question is worth asking those responsible for the system
Why is there no free choice to control between or through paragraphs, whether vertically or horizontally, with the help of a ruler?
You’re persisting in using Writer like a dumb mechanical typewriter, doing everything manually. You’ll inevitably meet unmanageable difficulties and inconsistencies. Take the example of your numbered list items. They show as:
… <some Arabic text> 1-
instead of
… <some Arabic text> -1
It is entirely your fault because you type manually everything instead of relying on the automatic numbering features.
In addition, composing everything in Default Paragraph Style is fulty because it prevents Writer from distinguishing what is what in the document (it can’t identifies ordinary paragraphs, list items or headings), thus preventing it from applying various formatting and you end up doing everything yourself.
Even if you have a deadline, read the Writer Guide. The more you postpone, the less you have time to create your document as you want/need it to be.
The free choice is called styling. It is extremely powerful and conceptually rather straightforward if you accept to forget all tou think to know about typewriters and simple text processors (reject “intuitiveness” which is nothing but routine imposed on us by the quasi-monopolistic actor in the domain, i.e Word). Basics are explained in the Guide.
In my understanding, it was what I expected
Bill Gates and Microsoft monopolize assets or restrict freedom for competitors, and monopoly is a crime. You know that, and I am talking specifically about LibreOffice, as well as my friend Linux
If all of your answer is yes, and imagine that you will be honest in the answer
My response is that this is a shock, and this is a major problem in terms of quality and competition. What if I buy Microsoft’s flower and I don’t like it? What if it is poor? What if LibreOffice outperforms? Isn’t that a motive for more progress, quality and development for everyone? Hear from you a brief overview of it
Do you mean that subscribing to Bill Gates and Microsoft is almost inevitable for individuals, and that means obtaining the desired freedom? It also means that it is impossible for Libero Office and Ritter to excel in the future over Word. Be frank, transparent, clear, and direct in the answer. Your speech implicitly means that I want to resolve this controversy.
Appeal to quality
Not in the free LibreOffice
Or paid and periodic Microsoft Word or something else
If a member disagrees with me, he says so
I will discuss this in the appropriate section of the forum as I know this is not the place it was just for catharsis
You are about as wrong as you can be. Several people here are spending lots of time to help you and teach you how to use this very powerful tool called LibreOffice Writer. Why don’t you take their lessons to heart? Why don’t you listen to them? Stop using a screwdriver as if it were a hammer. Stop presenting your text as a finished product when you’re still working on it. Displaying the so-called non-printing characters doesn’t look pretty, agreed, but it helps you to solve the kind of problems that you have, as in your post starting with “The difference between the two patterns in the vertical distance between the vertebrae” and a screenshot, that, once again, doesn’t show spaces and paragraph endings.
Writer is much more powerful than Word and it has to be as a challenger otherwise it won’t surface.
It is powerful because its founding principles are more elaborated and rational than those of Word. They put the emphasis on “meaning” instead of “appearance”, thus being closer to author’s approach to writing where the argumentation is more important than the look. The look comes second and it can be changed dramatically is the first part of authorship is done correctly.
Clearly Writer outperforms, and by far, Word when it comes to convey author intent into the document. As an author, you never think “bold” for a word, but you deem it is “important”. You don’t think an idea is “italics”, but it is a “comment” or a quotation". This is the change in reasoning you must adopt. Forget about font face, size, variant, colour, … Focus you job on what is of primary interest for you: you want to convince your reader you’re right.
This means your document is divided into parts (’“chapters”) with a heading each. Paragraphs inside each are part of the main argumentation (Text Body), others are comments or references to authoritative texts, …
Tag your text as such. The tags are styles, either paragraph styles for whole paragraphs or character styles for some words in paragraphs.
When your argumentation proceeds with ordered points, you have a list. But not all lists are equivalent (they don’t belong to same meaning topic), hence you have list styles to make a distinction between them, even if they are numbered the same visually.
When everything is in place, you tune the typographical attributes of the various styles to give a nice look to the finished document. When the styling is correctly done by the author, this polishing phase can be handed over an “artist” who will do this “decoration” for you with an absolute prohibition to touch your text and its markup in any way. Look and contents must remain separate. Otherwise the “artist” may change the meaning and ruin your argumentation.
Now, it’s up to you to accept this approach and learn how to tame it. You can always write a document just like it was done in the previous century but be prepared for hard times when you need to change something.
I try as hard as I can because of the language barrier. There is an Arabic proverb that says there is no fire without smoke. Do you think that I brought up the topic for fun or a mere coincidence? Your best intentions is to stop scolding and humiliating me through what is called free help. Your attack is unjustified. I take everything seriously and stop controlling. In expressing freedom of opinion, and if you want to offer something as a donation, give it a good heart, or go away and stop controlling my evaluation of the LibreOffice program. And reject me, I am in a struggle between paying money to Microsoft or humiliation. These are my options. Do you think I stand idly by ?
