Formatting Text in Impress

In libre office presentation, I cannot edit text in a slide, ie the normal banner with font size, bold,italics does not appear. How do I resolve this?

View -> Sidebar will show:

• On my system (LibreOffice 7.1.2.2 on GNU/Linux openSUSE 15.2) toolbar “Text Formatting” (View -> Toolbars -> [x] Text Formatting) appears context sensitive.
• May be you need to reset your LibreOffice user profile to get that working.

Press the arrow on the right hand side of the screen to open the menu that enables you to edit the text.

If that does not work reset your libreoffice user profile.
