Formulae not working in Calc

Formulae will not work for me in Calc.
e.g.
I enter =SUM(C61-C72) in a cell. When I move from that cell, the answer is not there, but the cell I have moved the cursor to (G63 in this example) is entered at the end of the formula in the original cell into which I entered the formula:

=SUM(C61:C72)G63

Alternatively I can highlight the cells to be sumated, click the Sigma symbol and use this SUM function to add up cells it works and the cell under the column of cells contains the sum of the figures in the cells and the input line contains =SUM(C61:C72)

And just to add a little context - this is needed because when you are creating/editing a formula, the assumption is that using the mouse or arrow keys will be for the purpose of adding a reference to one or more cells into that formula. It’s much easier to do so that way than it is to have to visually find the row/column and then type that in.

Enter and Tab on the keyboard, and the checkbox button in the formula bar, specifically indicate that you are finished with editing that formula and are ready to select something else in the sheet.

nope. arrow keys don’t select in Cell Edit Mode

Q: if someone has an official reference for the “Creating mode”, welcome

Side note : Selecting Multiple Cells

In Formula Cell Edit Mode after having pressed F2 once more, (shift+) arrow keys and mouse select, same as when creating a formula cell. F2 again toggles.
