Fractions and dates on spreadsheets

I have just switched from appleworks which is very different. Immediate problems on spreadsheets

a) if I enter 3/1 it automatically converts this to date 3/1/15-how do I stop this?

b) similarly if I enter 1/2 it automatically converts this to a fraction-how do I stop this?

Hi

You can update Tools▸Options▸Language Settings▸Languages▸Date acceptance patterns.

For example if default is D/M/Y;D/M;D.M.Y;D-M-Y you can remove D/M
