I have a USB stick with the PortableApps.com Platform, and one of the things it does when opened or closed is that it tells Windows to update its font cache to use fonts on the USB stick. Whenever this happens, LibreOffice will freeze for some time, the time is never consistent (it seems to depend on the USB stick’s time to update the font cache). Eventually LibreOffice will recover, but it happens every time for me. It isn’t limited to a particular part of LibreOffice, but the whole of the program. I’m not sure if it is a setting in LibreOffice doing this or a problem with LibreOffice itself.
