Getting An Error While Loading

I’m getting a “Write Error: The file couldn’t be written” every time I load a spreadsheet, and some of my documents files are getting the same error. I’m using v.7.6.4.1. Yeah, I know it’s an older version. But I was waiting for a bug to get resolved.

I then reloaded Windows 11, and now I can use the spreadsheet and my documents. What could be the problem, I’m only using v.7, because in the past I was waiting for a bug (which I no longer remember), was getting resolved.

Any ideas?

Possibly anti-ransomware settings, see Defender Controlled folder access exception for LibreOffice - The Document Foundation Wiki . Or check the documentation for whatever other antivirus you are using.

When you open a file, LibreOffice needs to write a lock file to the same folder as the file, if it is blocked from doing that you should get an error message.

I hope I did it correctly. I opened up Defender, and clicked on Inbound Rules, then right-clicked to add a new rule. On rule type, the radio button is on Program, I then clicked “next”.

Then it asks for the path to the program, I go to “Program Files” folder (not Program Files x86), and go to the Libre Office folder and select “swriter” file, and click OK.

I then do the same for “scalc” file.

You need to add only soffice.bin to the exceptions, typical path is "C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\soffice.bin"

You should only need to do it for anti-ransomware settings, that is, Start menu > Privacy & security > Virus & threat protection > Manage ransomware protection > Allow an app through Controlled folder access

I’ve looked everywhere, and I cannot find “Manage ransomware protection” option. I am under the “Virus & threat protection”

****** Update
I found it, and added soffice.bin, and then removed scalc and swriter.

If it continues, I’ll let you know! Thanks for your help, Earnest.Al!
