I have my gridlines checked on and they show up in print preview. My background is set to ‘no fill’. However, when I copy and paste my spreadsheet into an office or CAD document, the gridlines don’t show up. Suggestions?
Please delete all duplicates of this question. Thanks in advance …
Gridlines are not a property of the cells (they are more or less an editing aid) and thus not copied. You need to have cell borders for that.
As Opaque commented, the view
/print
Gridlines
setting is document wide, and may be a document property or an application-global setting, but is not a property of content.
This means that when you copy content, the setting is not part of the clipboard content. If you save the file, opening that file in a different application may also import the setting (depending on the application and file storage format in use). If you need to use some import function to get your file into that other application, the setting is most likely not forwarded.
Use Format
- Cells
, then the Borders
tab and set the borders you want to have. (Also as per Opaque’s comment.)
Even better, apply those settings to a cell style and apply that style. (Styles may seem like an unnecessary step, until the day you need to reformat a 50-sheet file because new company policy dictates that all result tables be displayed with blue dotted cell borders and turqoise background. On that day, you will be grateful for my advice.)
