First time trying libreoffice. Have just installed the latest version of libreoffice on my mac running macos 10.8.3. Was very enthusiastic. Wrote an article that I felt very passionate about (in Writer). Then, out of the blue, libreoffice crashes. Whaat did just happened? I am in chock, this haven’t happened to me since, I don’t know, the 90-ties. The famous windows blue screen, MS Word crashes, save often or you will loose your work. Nowdays, every webpage and webapp keeps the current status, even if I reload the page or quit the browser.
Did I just loose the article that I spent an hour working on? Oh yes I did. The recovery process only recovered the beginning. When I said I cried I meant it. I cried. And I am pissed off. It was just text with paragraphs and headings. How can an app loose data like this?
Sorry but I had to vent. I don’t need solutions. Because this is goodbye to libreoffice from me.
I tried Libre Office on Mac OS 10.4 and it was working just fine. Later, I installed Ubuntu 13.04 on iMac and no problems again. Perhaps you should call someone from IT or Apple service, just to see what is the problem, because lots of people did not experience what you did. Try not to blame LibreOffice before you discover what the problem is. Good luck!

I was using version 4.0.3.3 (Build ID: 0eaa50a932c8f2199a615e1eb30f7ac74279539), hope that this can be of help. My problem was probably that I am not using office products that often. My usual writing tools are Evernote (auto-saves), WordPress web editor, and various text editors (I am a bug fan of markdown). None of these tools has ever failed. I believe that tools should work FOR US, not vice versa…
Thank you for returning and providing feedback. It would also help to report under which OS this happened and what you were doing when it crashed. I’m sincerely sorry that you lost your creation. I agree that computers and software should work for us (and especially not fail in simple tasks). I hope your second version of the text (although it doesn’t replace the first) was satisfying to you
@Nora1 - I am very sorry to read that your lost valuable work. I experienced this often in my old MS Word, PowerPoint days thus understand how you must feel now. I am now using LibO for about a year and after a trial time during which I was using LibO and MSO in parallel, I switched fully over to LibO. On my new PC MSO is not installed anymore.
In LibO the recovery function works very well. What about if you tell us more about what happened. Here in this forum there are great analyst of whom I am sure they will do there best to help you.
Indeed, MS Office also crashes often, even in this day and age. I have seen it crash on me on both Windows and OS X multiple times. Office does a poor job of dealing with large documents and when many fonts are installed on OS X, it sh.ts all over itself as some bloggers like to say. LibreOffice does crash on OS X occasionally, but so does Firefox, so does Safari, so does Google Chrome. I expect LibO to perform much better on OS X once more recent API’s are used (Cocoa, Core Text etc.).
I am always surprised that someone takes his/hers time to write all of the negative information, but it does not take time to write which version of LibreOffice he/she is using and if there is anyway to solve the problem and prevent it in the future.
You know you could lost all of the work if electricity would gone out…

That is a cold and analystic answer. If you are a CREATIVE writer and you loose a text that just poored out of your imagination, you don’t give a S**T about which version of a program you were using. You are just frustrated and enraged that a program that should just work fails on such a simple task. Try to see beyond software and realize there are REAL people with REAL creative works that have REAL feelings. Please be more human.
I agree with you @Pedro1, but I also agree with @froz as well as I can understand the disappointment of @Nora1
Our digital world requires frequent saves and backups. Just because I spent about 100 EUR too late I had to pay 900 EUR. Due to a HDD crash I lost a lot of files. Fortunately for the mentioned 900 EUR a specializes company could retrieve them.
I personally have a back up of all data and a back up of the back up. It’s cheap and safe.
